Kinja'd!!!

I’m Sprint. Using an S3 droidtato. The audio jack cuts out and the battery causes random restarts when on low power. Time to upgrade with the 2 year. Please tell me your experience with these:

So, What I want? NOT the new bad-ass face tablets. I don’t need that. What I need is my S3 to work perfectly again, so I discovered several options for not very much money or free on the 2 year plan. Turns out there’s too many selections to wade through. So, please help. I’m getting sorta middle aged. I’m having problems with VCR clocks. (suggesting the jitter bug phone will get camel fleas cursed upon your family)

Options I would like your comments on if you have used the following.

Google Nexus 5, Moto-X, Galaxy-S4, LG flex, HTC One M8, LG G2 and G3,

told you there was a lot of choices. My uses are streaming lots of video and music since i travel quite a bit and would like a bit more battery life for that reason+ good storage space and expandability. I don’t need what the best of the best has right now. I’m not that crazy. Ideas?

M8 or nexus 5 from that list. Moto-X as a close third.

If you are open to a no contract phone,

Moto G (2nd gen) or OnePlus One

I’ve got a Nexus 5 and I like it pretty well. My favorite thing is the flexibility to take it wherever I want. I’m on T-Mobile prepaid with a $30 a month plan for unlimited data and texts with 100 minutes. I rarely use my phone as a phone so this is perfect for me. If I get tired of T-Mobile I’ll just take it somewhere else.

I loved my HTC ONE M7, but the M8 has been a dissapointment. First one I got, the top speaker cover was coming off and the screen itself was coming out. Took it back and they replaced it under warranty. Then it had issues with the protective chemical film on the camera lens making pictures blurry. A little rubbing alcohol fixed that, but it was still annoying. But by far the worst thing is that 80% of the texting I do is in group chats, and the phone freezes up almost every time you use a group chat. Plus it doesn’t have the same cool metallic look and feel of the M7. If I had it to do over again I’d get the iPhone 6 like my brother.

I have a close friend that uses the G2, now ignoring the fact that he’s a complete idiot and doesn’t take care of anything he owns, two G2s have died under his watch. (He says it’s not his fault at all.) He replaced it the first time under warranty, the second time he gave up and just picked up an iPhone 6. His G2 outlasted both my Note 2 and its replacement iPhone 6 Plus batteries on similar usage.

Before all that though, he lost his Nexus 5, but it truly wasn’t anything special. It’s great to have constant updates from Google though, since it’s a Nexus device.

My other friend has a G3. Great battery life. Exapandable memory. Great responsiveness and great screen. He hasn’t broken it yet, but he’s like the complete opposite of Mr. G2 over there. I’d go with the G3.

You should also consider the OnePlus One which is only $350 but is miles ahead of my Note 2, and definite on par with last year’s flagship phones at least. Or the Nexus 6 if you want a proper OS instead of a ROM.

Possibly. Going form the GS3 i’m a bit biased towards the GS4-plainly from its 64g storage over the others but i’m looking for other items that lead me away. I’m not tied to them i just know they make a good phone so it’s an option. Why do you suggest the M8 or X?

There’s no point in recommending a no contract phone, he’s on Sprint.

I currently use the Nexus 5. Battery life is eh, but pretty much every phone sucks because the screens are so big. You have to power that screen somehow. As for the phone itself, its rock solid. It just works. I had a Nexus 4 before this, and the only reason I upgraded was I wanted a bigger screen. I’ve known a couple people with the MotoX, and they aren’t too thrilled with it. The HTC is a good phone, but I believe it’s rather pricey. How much data do you use every month? If you don’t kill it you should ditch the contract and go prepaid. If you don’t mind the At&t network, Cricket plans are CHEAP. I get 2.5gb of data at 4G after that its throttled, plus unlimited text and calls for $40 a month, or $35 a month if you sign up for auto pay. You really can’t beat it.

The limits here are the sprint company im with and the price. I’m not forking over $300 for something to replace it 3 years later. It’s the free phone or just a few coins for a two year extension so those seem to be the choices i have within that budget. Kinda weird that i’m asking for a corollaGT of phones instead of the new 911.

Personal preference really.

I like a “clean” android, and samsung really messed with that up until the s6.

OnePlus One has 64gb for $350 unlocked. (Same or better specs than the gs5)

Nexus 5, if you can find it, is also in the $350 range, and is 100% clean. X is mostly clean and the m8 isn’t bad.

Of all, I’d go for the OnePlus One 64gb

Edit: Just read your criteria. For watching/storing media, the M8 is actually pretty good. Large, clear screen, and those forward facing speakers are incredible. Just keep in mind what I warned you about.

Ah yes. I forgot. I’m on Verizon and the OnePlus was a phone I was considering until I learned it doesn’t work on Verizon (and Sprint too.)

I’d go with the Nexus 5 with the Google customer service (and warranty) and the constant OS updates to keep the phone up to date compared to other carriers that will take 4 months to update and only update it twice before it’s considered irrelevant.

Windows Phone. Wait, did Sprint bring them back yet? I dropped them for VZW because VZW has WP... And I love my W8 phones (8xt with Sprint, One VZW).

Want easy, that’s the one.

When using an Android phone I always tend to go Nexus due to the lack of bloatware and the speed of updates. Having said that, the battery problem of your S3 can easily be solved. Just get a new battery, they don’t cost all that much at all. That doesn’t solve the jack problem though.

Nexus 5, if you’re only picking from your list. But I’d highly recommend the HTC One M7. Once my contract on my S5 expires, I’m downgrading back to one.

Honestly, try the Windows Phones. Sprint offers the Lumia 635 (my preference), Samsung Galaxy Neo, HTC 8XT, and I think the HTC One M8 for Windows (which is quite good except for the camera).

Stupidly easy to use (my tech-illiterate mom and grandmother love theirs), works great, no lag, good battery life and reception, good design, fairly durable, and they’re all supposed to get Windows 10 later this year.

Right. so instead of getting a new battery for a phone that could easily begin to glitch out after industrial style use, I figure, ill just get a free newer version with a contract extension. problem solved. I’m def. thinking nexus as well here. Ill have to weigh droid vs. windows
